The six-pack is over rated…

It’s practically impossible to achieve that almost air-brushed look, unless you have absolutely nothing to do all day but work at it. And trying that hard for washboard abs can actually cause more harm than good.

What most of us want — and is a more realistic goal to work towards — is simply a flatter belly and slimmer waist. And now is the time to get started so you can wow yourself, family and friends at upcoming holiday gatherings… especially the ones where you’ll want to wear your favorite little black dress.

This set of exercises is a go-to for daily awareness of your core muscles. Each of the exercises you want to focus on will help you reach your deep core muscles without risking back injury.

Follow the progression until you need to stop because you’re unable to maintain good position. You do want a challenge, after all. The goal is increasing the advantage of an exercise while decreasing any risk or disadvantages.

As you do these you’ll notice how much you feel yourself bracing and drawing in as opposed to some more popular core exercises that make it almost impossible for you to stay strong and drawn in. Follow the cues here to keep yourself safe and really pull those muscles in for a waist-defining core series that works all year.

Hint: Core exercises are most effective when you breathe out as if breathing through a straw on the most challenging part.
