I’m not a cleansing nut. But I do think it is a good thing to do on occasion, especially when I go through a period of time when I’m just not eating as clean as I’d like to. You know what I’m talking about…

When I go on vacation with my family, we like to partake of the local foods, and even the rare trips through a fast-food joint. Some hectic weekends see me eating more processed food that I’d like to as well.

But getting back on track can be easy with a superfood detox salad. The way I make my superfood salad you don’t have to worry about being hungry afterwards, or feeling deprived of something tasty. I specifically choose lots of tasty foods full of the best health-boosting nutrients known for their ability to cleanse toxins from your body…

Like broccoli. Numerous studies have shown that broccoli can flush toxins, even pollution and the known human carcinogen, benzene, from your body. 1 But detoxifying foods don’t have to be all green: blueberries, carrots and beets are great examples too. If you like mushrooms, they are great detoxifiers you can add to almost any salad.

So armed with information from several of the contributing M.Ds at Easy Health Options, I’ve developed my own superfood detox salad — complete with a lemony sweet dressing. Lemons give your liver — your body’s main detoxing organ — some much-needed assistance. Of course no detoxing superfood salad would be complete without a kale base. If you find kale chewy or tough, get baby kale. It’s just a delicate as lettuce.

Superfood detox salad

  • A big handful of baby kale
  • ½ cup of broccoli spouts
  • ½ cup of shredded carrots
  • ¼ cup of blueberries
  • ½ an apple, diced
  • ¼ cup of artichoke hearts
  • Purple onion, according to preference
  • A sprinkling of pumpkin seeds
  • A few pickled beets on the side
  • ⅓ cup of extra virgin olive oil or grape seed oil
  • 3 tablespoons of honey
  • 4 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice
  • A pinch of sea salt
  • A pinch of turmeric
  1. For salad dressing, whisk together oil, honey, lemon juice, sea salt and turmeric. Toss vegetables and fruit together in large bowl with dressing.
