I don’t know what it is with me and trends, but I know of at least four things I did before it became all the rage to do them.

The first, second and third go hand in hand. I became frugal 20 years ago when I was pregnant with my first child, years before the Great Recession created frugalistas. And while he was still a toddler, I adopted a minimalist lifestyle. The daughter of a hoarder, I realized things don’t bring happiness; experiences and relationships do. So I decided to spend my money doing things with the people I love as opposed to buying things we didn’t need. And because I’m frugal and a minimalist, I chose an inexpensive hobby that doesn’t take up much space. I discovered intricate coloring books a decade ago, bought some colored pencils and a hobby was born. Now, coloring is the hip thing to do.

The fourth trend is something else I’ve been doing for at least 20 years: eating Greek yogurt. I ate it for the first time at a hole-in-the-wall Greek restaurant in Birmingham. It was thick and creamy and smothered with honey. So good! I went there frequently for years just to indulge in the tasty treat. And then lo and behold, Greek yogurt started appearing on grocery store shelves.

I firmly believe that all four of these trends are good for you. Frugality, minimalism and coloring all ease stress and anxiety. And Greek yogurt is chock full of protein and probiotics. It’s also a good source of B12, potassium and, of course, calcium. Add honey, and you have a healthy and tasty treat.
